My trip to Stockholm during my internship in Turku (Finland)
The best free-time activity during the internship abroad
My weekend trip to Stockholm, Sweden was the best free-time activity I could ever expect. Let me tell you more about my journey from Finland to Sweden during my internship abroad.
I am currently in Turku, Finland for my internship at Nova Talent for 4 weeks. During the 3rd week of my internship abroad, my roommate and I decided to do a trip to Stockholm on our last weekend abroad.
It was Friday evening, when we took a ferry from Turku to Stockholm. There are the "Viking Line" and the "Tallink Silja Line" to choose from. We wanted to travel on Friday night so that we can spend the whole Saturday in Stockholm.
We took the Silja ferry from 20:15 to 06:10 (Finnish time). On the ship, there are some restaurants, a few shops, some bars, a game room and places on the deck to spend the time besides sleeping. We got to see the evening show which took place in the evening. Afterwards we were able to sleep in our 4-bed-cabin until we arrived in Stockholm.
At the metro station we could buy a ticket for all the local public traffic. So we could take all the busses and trains in the city.
We arrived in the early Saturday morning, so we got to see the sunrise and had the whole day to spend there. After a short breakfast at the metro station we walked through different areas of the city, and we got to see so many historical buildings.
For lunch we decided to go to a local restaurant, and we had a "all you can eat buffet".
I have a Swedish friend who I met online a few years ago. I told him that I would come to Stockholm, and we could meet for the first time in real life. He and his girlfriend joined us and they guided us through the city. We got to see a few museums, the amusement park, the castle, the river pier, the market place and so many more things. After that we went to the "VRex" and played a virtual reality game there.
We closed the trip with my Swedish friend and his girlfriend with a dinner at a restaurant in the city-center. There we talked about life in Austria, Sweden, Finland and enjoyed the last part of the day together.
At the end of the day, me and my roommate went to several bars. The highlight was probably the "ice-bar" where it was -7 degrees. Everything inside the bar was made of ice.
I spent the night in a cheap hostel near the harbor. The next day we took a ferry from Stockholm back to Turku. We took the ferry from 07:30 to 19:20 (Finnish time). So for the return journey we had to go during the day. Therefore I didn't sleep on the ship, but enjoyed the time there. We arrived at our appartement in Turku in the late Sunday evening.
That was an experience of a lifetime.
