Finland: The World's Happiest Country (Again!)

Finland has just been named the world’s happiest country for the ninth year in a row! When hosting your interns here in Finland, we have noticed some major points which might make the difference here in Finland

Work Culture is unformal

  • We have a flat hierarchy in Finland. As a worker it’s easy to approach your boss. For example, we call our bosses by their first names. This makes a friedly athmosphere at the work site.

  • Working overtime is not normal. We value our free time and the balance between work hours, and free time is valued at the company level too. Your boss might get worried if you are not heading home after your working hours are done.

Intern Nora takes it easy at work (her last day). The chair is made by her at work and should be transported to Germany.

Digitalization makes things easy

  • You can pay almost everywhere with your bank card, Mobilepay digital wallet.

  • In Turku you can follow the bus coming to your bus stop on-line in your Föli App (Föli is the name for the local public transportation)

  • For Finns almost all bureaucracy in administration can be done via digital systems. No need to go queueing. However, tax numbers for your interns should be applied on-site in the tax office, but it goes smoothly because we book the timeslot for that beforehand, and the tax number is delivered via e-mail in a couple of days.

Nature is close to you:

  • You don’t have to travel far to find open space and trees. The cities are planned so, that you can find trees or parks within 200 meters from your flat. We value especially forests, and we have a term ”lähimetsä”, which means, that forrest should be near you.

  • In Turku we have several nature trails and even one national park (Kurjenrahka) have an entrance within our local transportation system (you can access the entrance with your Föli card).

This forest is only 3 kilometers from the Turku city center.

We wellcome all interns here to enjoy our happines!
